Education

Students living in Sonoma Ranch attend the schools of Northside Independent School District. Though widely regarded as the fourth largest district within the state with over 85,000 students enrolled throughout the district, students living in Sonoma Ranch and Helotes are zoned to Bob Beard Elementary School, Helotes Elementary School, Dean H. Krueger Elementary School, Los Reyes Canyon Elementary School, Hector Garcia Middle School, Sandra Day O'Connor High School or Louis D. Brandeis High School. Once students graduate and are ready to take on the challenging world of college, universities and colleges within the San Antonio metro area awaits them. These institutions of higher learning include The University of Texas-San Antonio, the colleges of the Alamo Community College District, St. Mary's University, Our Lady of the Lake University, Trinity University, University of the Incarnate Word, and Wayland Baptist University.

Residents of Sonoma Ranch and Helotes are only a short 16 mile drive to downtown San Antonio and about a 30 minute drive to the center of the city. With Interstate 10 located nearby, the commute to work is relatively fast and easy. Four economic sectors define the overall economy and job market of the San Antonio metro area: financial services, health care, government, and tourism. The military and defense sectors also contribute to the area's overall economy with Fort Sam Houston, Randolph Air Force Base and Lackland Air Force Base located nearby. Additionally, the San Antonio metro area is home to five Fortune 500 companies: Clear Channel Communications, Valero Energy Corp, NuStar Energy, USAA, and Tesoro Petroleum Corp.

Residents of Sonoma Ranch have access to a number of attractions and areas of interests that educate, inspire, and give everyone plenty to do and explore for days on end. As a tourist destination, residents and visitors enjoy heading out to the famous River Walk, which consists of a two and a half mile long network of walkways along the San Antonio River. The River Walk is lined with an eclectic selection of shops, boutique, bars, and restaurants for the public to enjoy. The Arneson River Theatre and Aztec On The River theatre are located along the River Walk. Other attractions include The Alamo, SeaWorld San Antonio, The Fairmont Hotel, and the downtown district, which houses such points of interest as the Cathedral of San Fernando, The Majestic Theatre, the Spanish Governor's Palace, the Menger Hotel, and the HemisFair Park.

If you're an arts enthusiast, San Antonio is home to a number of fine museums and art galleries that will surely pique your interest, such as the McNay Art Museum (San Antonio's first museum dedicated to modern art), San Antonio Museum of Art, ArtPlace, and Blue Star Contemporary Art Center. Other museums and historical sites of interests like the San Antonio Missions National Historical Park, the Witte Museum, and the Texas Transportation Museum offer patrons historical and cultural glimpses into the past and present days of San Antonio.

If you follow sports, then you already know that San Antonio is home to several well-renowned sports teams, such as the NBA's San Antonio Spurs, the WNBA's San Antonio Silver Stars, and the AHL's San Antonio Rampage. The City of San Antonio is also the home of the San Antonio Missions, a Double-A Minor League affiliate of the San Diego Padres.
